Novation Bass Station II Swifty Edition: Bold Design Meets Iconic Sound
The Novation Bass Station II Swifty Edition is a limited-run synthesizer designed for artists who crave both sonic power and standout visual identity. Combining the trusted analog engine of the Bass Station II with the bold, unmistakable artwork of Ian "Swifty" Swift, this edition merges hands-on synthesis with cultural depth. Swifty, renowned for shaping the visual language of UK underground music in the 1990s and beyond, brings a look inspired by rave flyers, dubplate culture, and DIY zines.
Analog Powerhouse with a Unique Look
At its core, the Bass Station II Swifty Edition offers the full analog architecture the synth is known for: two main oscillators, a sub-oscillator for added low-end depth, two distinct filter types, and a suite of classic analog effects. With an onboard step sequencer, arpeggiator, and full-sized keys, it’s crafted for rich bass but versatile enough for leads, textures, and more.
This special edition adds Swifty’s striking visual style—directly printed onto the chassis—to the performance-friendly layout, creating a synth that’s as expressive visually as it is sonically. Perfect for studio setups or live rigs, it delivers a bold presence that reflects the roots of electronic music culture.
AFX Mode: Unleash the Unexpected
Created in collaboration with Richard D. James (Aphex Twin), AFX Mode redefines what a mono synth can do. It lets you assign a unique patch to every key, turning the Bass Station II into a dynamic, multi-voice instrument. Use it to build expressive sound variations across the keyboard or load completely different sounds on each key—ideal for live sets, experimental compositions, or building drum kits.
All your patches can be stored, backed up, and organized through Novation’s Components platform, accessible via Chrome or desktop.
Hands-On Analog Synthesis
The synth features a true analog signal path designed for deep, characterful tones. Two oscillators (with selectable waveforms and octave settings), a sub-oscillator, white noise, ring modulation, and pulse-width modulation give you a wide palette to shape.
The filter section offers two analog types—Classic and Acid—with switchable 12/24 dB slopes, variable resonance, and overdrive for rich saturation and self-oscillation. Two LFOs and two ADSR envelopes provide flexible modulation routes to pitch, filter, or amplitude, all controlled via a hands-on interface that avoids screen-deep menus.
With 64 user patch slots and 64 factory presets, you’ll have immediate access to a range of classic and contemporary sounds.
Performance Tools and Pro Connectivity
Create and perform with ease using the built-in step sequencer and arpeggiator. Record sequences in real time, save them alongside patches, and recall instantly for live use. Paraphonic mode allows you to trigger two notes simultaneously using both oscillators, expanding harmonic options without sacrificing monophonic strength.
Bass Station II connects seamlessly to your studio or stage setup. It features USB and traditional 5-pin MIDI I/O, a sustain pedal input, and an external audio input for routing other gear through its analog filter section. A dedicated headphone output supports silent practice, sound design, or mobile production.
A Synth That Speaks Visually and Sonically
With the Swifty Edition, Novation’s classic analog bass synth gains a vibrant new identity. The custom panel design channels the rebellious spirit of the underground scene while preserving the intuitive control scheme performers rely on. Whether in the studio or on stage, this version of Bass Station II is a striking centerpiece—built to inspire creativity at every level.
